Abstract

Suffering with a sore tooth, Marissas mother takes her downtown to the dentist. Marissa sees a homeless man, sitting on a grate collecting money in a shoe box. After watching the man as people step over him, occasionally putting coins in his box, pulls away from her mother to drop her tooth into the mans box, telling him to put it under his pillow that night. Although the text acknowledges that Marissas gift wont fix this problem, its sure to spark discussion. An ordinary visit to the dentist turns into something extraordinary.
